It is our joy to introduce you to the online training program of the Lowcountry Biblical Counseling Center of Charleston, SC. If you are interested in pursuing a certificate in biblical counseling, we wholeheartedly recommend the online training at LCBCC. This program is for those who desire:

To grow in the understanding of the Bible as God’s instrument of change in the lives of His people (2 Tim 3:14-17; 2 Peter 3:3,4).
To develop confidence in the sufficiency of Scripture, gain skills necessary for using Scripture confidently to help people facing difficult issues and to encourage them in spiritual growth through their trials.

You are applying for a scholarship for "CHANGE THAT STICKS" paid in full by the SELAH SEED program. This course is offered through the Low Country Biblical Counseling Center in Charleston, SC. (www.onlineschoolbc.com) - What is Lowcountry Biblical Counseling Center (LCBCC)? LCBCC is an ACBC certified training center. All their training courses and materials are approved and certified by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), the largest national certifying organization for biblical counseling.

Please read carefully the below detailed description of the biblical counseling course for which you are applying. (Please note: Selah will pay the course fee which includes the downloadable course syllabus, but you will be responsible for purchasing books for required reading as well as the professionally printed and bound student outline/syllabus for $35 plus s/h should you desire this rather than the free downloadable version of the course syllabus that you must print.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: "Change that Sticks" is the essential core curriculum helping hundreds learn to counsel and overcome basic personal problems. 5 courses in 1: fundamental doctrines of change, methodologies in counseling, transforming emotions, and family counseling. (This is Step 1 in the ACBC certification process.)

44 Track I Syllabus & Course Requirements - FUNDAMENTAL COURSE IN BIBLICAL COUNSELING(“Change That Sticks")

A. 45 Videos with Weekly and Monthly Online Class Discussions (to be completed within a 9 to 12 month time frame. LCBCC offers an extension for a monthly subscription rate if you are unable to complete within the 12 month time frame. SELAH SEED funds will only cover the 12 month course, not extensions. You are accountable for finishing the course as part of the scholarship agreement. If the class is not completed within the course of one year, you are responsible for refunding Selah the cost of the class so that another ministry leader might take advantage of the scholarship funds.) - Class enrollment is perpetual, so enroll at any time.

Module One: The Rediscovery of Biblical Counseling & Change: (Fundamental Doctrines of Change) The Basis of Biblical Counseling: Whose Job Is It?; Scripture Has the Answers; The Sanctification Process - Can a Person Really Change?

Module Two: Transformed Emotions: Clearing the Guilty Conscience; Learning to Forgive; Anger: Its Causes & Cures; Depression: Avoiding Despair in Difficult Times; Overcoming Fear, Worry & Anxiety

Module Three: Ten Marks of the Faithful Counselor: (Methods of Counseling) Integrity, Building the Relationship, Collecting Needed Information, Inspiring Biblical Hope, Saturating Counseling with Prayer, Exposing Root Problems, Discovering God's Solutions, Developing a Plan of Change, Calling for Commitment, Connecting Change to the Church

Module Four: Marriage & Family Counseling: God's Purpose for Marriage, Husband and Wife Roles, Biblical Communication, Sexuality in Marriage, Goals in Parenting, Gentle Correction and Consistent Consequences in Child Training

Module Five: Advanced Issues: Troubling Emotions and Chemical Imbalances, Helping the Sexually Tempted, Gaining a Transforming Vision of the Gospel, Choosing Truth over Theories in Counseling

B. Reading: Change that Sticks: Training in Biblical Counseling and Personal Change(This is the workbook for the video lessons.) and 1,000 pages of your choice of the ACBC approved reading list. *Note from Selah —Let us know if you would like a copy of the list of our recommendations of books from this ACBC approved reading list. We realize that you may need to build your counseling library little by little so we have compiled a list of our favorites.

Change That Sticks can be used to meet all the requirements for Phase One in A.C.B.C. certification.

IF YOU ARE WANTING AN ALL-IN-ONE EQUIPPING or CERTIFICATION EXPERIENCE:

Phase 1: Students complete the Change That Sticks course which provides a thorough 45 video course with readings, assignments and even an additional 10 counseling observations in Biblical counseling and change (certified by ACBC).

Phase 2: Students then take the ACBC Exam Prep Course - Essentials of Biblical Counseling (ACBC Exam Mentorship)- www.onlineschoolbc.com (LCBCC) to receive help on any of the 44 exam questions in which guidance is needed. (You will need to contact: info@selahinternational.org and reapply for scholarship funds to cover the cost of this second course in the certification experience. Funds will be given for Phase 2 based on your completion of “Change that Sticks” within the 12-month time frame.)

Phase 3: Once your exams are approved by ACBC, you may begin the counseling supervision process with an ACBC fellow. (SICM will cover the ACBC fellow fee for his services.)

Upon completion of all three steps, you are certified!

Please read carefully the below detailed description of the biblical counseling course for which you are applying. This course covers the major topics that the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors have included on their exam and are essential in an effective ministry in counseling. The GTC-Exam Writing is a guided-to-completion course designed to assist you in completing the second phase of your certification by ACBC within six months. This course includes video lessons taught by one of the most seasoned biblical counselors in the field today, Dr. Ron Allchin, and by the director of the LCBCC, Tim Bryant. The videos address each of the exam questions and provide Scripture and references for further study. You will also have weekly interaction with an instructor/mentor who will help you stay on track and who will review your exam answers and offer helpful suggestions.

At the end of this course, you will:

Be ready to submit your counseling and theology exam answers to ACBC for completion of phase two of certification.
Be eligible for the supervision phase (final phase of certification) after your exams are approved by ACBC.

Here are a few details to keep in mind as you begin the ACBC EXAM MENTORSHIP course:

There are 44 essay exams (20 counseling exams and 24 theology exams). LCBCC has recorded a video lesson that covers each of these exams. Take great notes as you watch the video, then write the essay for that exam.
Every exam question submitted within a 6-month period of time will be reviewed and appropriate help given by a certified instructor. You may submit up to 2 questions a week. As you are awaiting a response/graded exam from your instructor, continue watching the videos and writing the next few exams.
Each student will have access to the ACBC exam instructional videos for up to 12 months. To make the most of the access to the instructor, though, you will need 2-3 hours a week to invest for 6 months. Mark your calendar on the day you submit the first exam to your instructor. You have access to your instructor’s help for 6 months from that day.

ACBC Certification Process:

Phase 1: Students complete the Change That Sticks course which provides a thorough 45 video course with reading assignments and the 10 counseling observations in Biblical counseling and change (certified by ACBC).

Phase 2: Students then take the ACBC Exam Mentorship course to receive help on any of the 44 exam questions in which guidance is needed.
